Figure, table and section ledger
Editorial contribution type: Learning & optimization algorithms (primary) · Theory & formal foundations.
Layout extraction, not a required paper template. Counts are distinct caption labels; a multi-panel figure counts once. Section spans are estimated from heading positions, including floats and whitespace. Method and limitations.

Section-by-section lengths and source pages
The title/abstract/front matter precede the first numbered heading. A span ends at the next detected top-level heading, not at the last sentence; end-page whitespace is included. References and statements are listed separately. These are not measurements of text-only or artwork area.

Argument and organization
- Clipping failure and related work
Isolate the policy-update mechanism from advantage estimation.
- Projection and sparse implementation
Move from constrained objective to differentiable solution and vocabulary-scale feasibility.
- Experiments, ablations and appendix
Test transfer across algorithms/models, then audit the cost and mechanism.
Problem, claim and contribution
The introduction narrows the intervention to PPO-like clipping while preserving the surrounding estimator and inference behavior, making the claimed novelty unusually easy to locate.
Sections 1–2, pp. 1–3 · Main paper
Figures, captions and visual explanation
Figure 2 places the rollout buffer below the current-policy stream and merges them at a boxed projection equation. Its caption ties the diagram to both the constraint and training objective.
Figure 2, p. 4 · Main paper
Tables, comparisons and evidence
Table 1 groups model families above estimator columns and highlights the better result in each paired row, exposing both failures and non-wins instead of showing only an aggregate gain.
Table 1, p. 8 · Main paper
Appendix and reproducibility
The appendix separates mathematical derivation, executable-style listings, checkpoint/hyperparameter tables, full curves, controlled overhead and raw examples; Figure 6 additionally explains gradient flow.
Appendices A–F, pp. 16–40 · Main paper
Clarity and writing conventions
Bold run-in headings organize the results by dataset/model generalization, while named appendices provide precise routes to full trajectories.

What to reuse—and what not to infer
Transferable lesson: Explain a drop-in method by naming exactly which component changes, then hold surrounding components fixed. Pair a high-level mechanism diagram with an equation-level computation graph and controlled cost measurements.
Boundary: Qualify words such as consistently and negligible: Table 1 has non-wins, and Table 5 reports a 54.2% runtime increase for the 0.6B setup. Sparse-KL guarantees also require the explicit assumptions in Theorem A.2.
Apply this lesson using the argument and evidence worksheet.
