Figure, table and section ledger

Editorial contribution type: Inference, algorithms & systems efficiency (primary) · Empirical analysis, diagnosis & auditing.

Layout extraction, not a required paper template. Counts are distinct caption labels; a multi-panel figure counts once. Section spans are estimated from heading positions, including floats and whitespace. Method and limitations.

Section-by-section lengths and source pages

The title/abstract/front matter precede the first numbered heading. A span ends at the next detected top-level heading, not at the last sentence; end-page whitespace is included. References and statements are listed separately. These are not measurements of text-only or artwork area.

Argument and organization

  1. Observation before intervention

Introduces early answer emergence empirically before converting it into a confidence-gap stopping rule.

  2. Performance, composition, and scope

Tests stand-alone decoding and compatibility with existing accelerators, then documents task-specific answer regions.

Problem, claim and contribution

The central change is when to terminate refinement, not how to cache attention or train a smaller model. The related-work taxonomy makes those complementary intervention points explicit.

Sections 1–2.2 · Main paper

Argument and section order

The observed phenomenon, scalar confidence metric, staged threshold, and complete pseudocode are introduced in that order, giving readers an unusually short path from evidence to an implementable intervention.

Sections 3.2–4; Algorithm 1, p. 7 · Main paper

Figures, captions and visual explanation

Token-position heatmaps distinguish prediction changes from actual commitment, while an adjacent timeline explains how answer-region convergence can precede completed reasoning text.

Figures 2–3, p. 6 · Main paper

Tables, comparisons and evidence

Accuracy deltas and acceleration appear together for each task and backbone, showing that speed and quality are not uniform. Compatibility tables separate distillation from cache-based acceleration.

Tables 1–2, pp. 8–9 · Main paper

Appendix and reproducibility

The appendix discloses that answer spans depend on task priors and that open-ended generation is not the intended universal use case. It also tests incorrect-answer trajectories rather than showing only successful examples.

Appendices A, B.3, and C.1 · Main paper

Clarity and writing conventions

The headline early-correct percentages are conditional on final-correct samples, and first correctness is not the same as permanent convergence. These qualifications should accompany the motivating claim, not remain easy to miss.

What to reuse—and what not to infer

Transferable lesson: Pair an internal-dynamics visualization with an executable decision rule, then state exactly which samples and output regions the motivating statistic describes.

Boundary: Prophet is a heuristic early-stop method, not a correctness guarantee or KD method. Step reductions are not automatically wall-clock gains. Main-text generation lengths and threshold descriptions differ from Appendix Table 6. The PDF title also differs slightly from the program title.

Apply this lesson using the argument and evidence worksheet.
