ICML 2026 — rules and template
Read requirements separately from examples
ICML 2026 distinguishes an eight-page initial body from a nine-page final body. Supporting material can extend the same PDF; a one-column appendix is permitted. These are edition-specific requirements, not a rule inferred from the published corpus.
Position papers are a distinct track with a Position: title prefix and Alternative Views in the main body. They are exempt from the main-track impact statement and lay summary. No universal figure, table, algorithm or theorem quota follows from either track.
Current author instructions and the older kit disagree about PDF size and supported authoring formats. The ledger records both sources and the phase-specific resolution instead of silently treating template boilerplate as current policy.

Conflicts and unknowns
The kit retains an older file-size limit
The example paper says 10 MB. The current author instructions explicitly set 50 MB for submission and 20 MB for camera-ready. Retain the discrepancy and use the current phase-specific author instructions.

Word examples are not current support
The kit contains legacy Word instructions. The current author page states that only LaTeX is supported. Preserve the 2026 LaTeX style instead of treating the legacy prose as an alternative supported workflow.

Font requirement versus final checker behavior
The kit asks for embedded Type-1 fonts and discourages Type-3. The final instructions say there is no Type-3 font check this year and specifically discourage rasterizing vector figures just to bypass that check. This is a checker clarification, not permission to alter typography.

Position Track lay-summary exception
The combined final instructions ask for a lay summary without an explicit Position Track carve-out in that item. The position call explicitly exempts lay summaries as well as impact statements. Retain the track-specific exception; confirm any submission-form requirement if it disagrees.

Presentation category does not identify track
The oral-event inventory includes both Main and Position Track papers. Preserve each official track and decision label. An oral slot does not turn a position paper into a technical main-track paper.
