Figure, table and section ledger

Editorial contribution type: Training, objectives & optimization (primary).

Layout extraction, not a required paper template. Counts are distinct caption labels; a multi-panel figure counts once. Section spans are estimated from heading positions, including floats and whitespace. Method and limitations.

Source-bound correction: Top-level heading and reference/appendix boundaries checked against source PDF text. Bibliography titles/author initials, numbered contribution/property bullets, diagram steps, equations and TOC entries are not substantive headings. Section spans are page-coordinate estimates, not ink area or prose-only length. This is an author manuscript mirror, not a verified accepted-version template. Source layout uses physical single-column y/page-height, including equation-heavy pages. Appendix A Acknowledgments is part of the lettered appendix sequence; appendix continues through E until References p.53, not just the acknowledgments paragraph.

Section-by-section lengths and source pages

The title/abstract/front matter precede the first numbered heading. A span ends at the next detected top-level heading, not at the last sentence; end-page whitespace is included. References and statements are listed separately. These are not measurements of text-only or artwork area.

Argument and organization

  1. Motivation and main results

Explains heterogeneous reinforcement-learning domains and previews a broad task comparison.

  2. Supervised fine-tuning and Cascade RL

Documents data curation and stage-specific recipes before deeper mechanism analyses.

  3. Domain deep dives and reproduction detail

Separates competitive coding, RLHF and software engineering questions from prompt and hyperparameter appendices.

Problem, claim and contribution

Heterogeneous response lengths and verification latency motivate domain-wise stages. The intervention is framed as a training procedure with operational constraints, not simply a larger benchmark score.

Introduction · Main paper

Argument and section order

Main results come early, followed by supervised fine-tuning, reinforcement-learning stages and domain-specific deep dives. This is a long technical-report outline; a conference paper would need a tighter central claim and separate supporting detail.

Sections 2–7 · Main paper

Figures, captions and visual explanation

A sparse directed pipeline names each training stage and its order without decorating every block. The figure establishes curriculum sequence; it does not by itself prove that every stage is necessary.

Figure 2, PDF p. 5 · Main paper

Tables, comparisons and evidence

The main table groups benchmark families and identifies model sizes and thinking-mode conventions. Stage tables mark improvements and degradations relative to the preceding stage, retaining cross-domain trade-offs rather than only final wins.

Appendix and reproducibility

Evaluation settings, prompts, stage-specific hyperparameters and contest-level outcomes provide reproduction routes. The report keeps these distinct from the main training narrative, although its overall 60-page size is not a submission template.

Appendices B–E · Main paper

Clarity and writing conventions

Captions explain mode selection, arrows and evaluation exceptions. Those qualifiers belong near the numbers, especially when comparing unified reasoning models with differently configured baselines.

What to reuse—and what not to infer

Transferable lesson: For a multi-stage training recipe, show stage order once and use stage-to-stage evidence to expose both transfer and forgetting across domains.

Boundary: The inspected March 2026 arXiv revision is a 60-page technical report originating in 2025. It is neither Nemotron-Cascade 2 nor a verified layout of the NeurIPS accepted revision.

Apply this lesson using the argument and evidence worksheet.
