These patterns synthesize selected inspected examples. They are reusable editorial lessons, not counts of how many papers use each pattern, official requirements or causal explanations of acceptance. Use the contribution-specific plans for a complete drafting package and the atlas for measured denominators.
01Let the question earn the intervention
A specific obstacle, assumption gap or missing capability makes the proposed change understandable before its name is introduced.
Apply it to a draft
Write the conventional formulation and the reason it fails in the target setting. Pair each changed component with that reason; remove a module from the introduction if its purpose cannot yet be explained.
Two related-work tables compare assumptions and supported activations. The gap is a precise mathematical restriction, rather than an unsupported claim that prior uncertainty propagation is generally inadequate.
The paper motivates a specific sparse, calibrated multi-camera laboratory regime. This gives the reader a concrete reason why a generic 3D model and a pose-only representation are not automatically adequate baselines.
Boundary: A compelling motivation is not evidence that the intervention works; it identifies what the experiments or proof must establish.
02Show computation and information access separately
A diagram should distinguish the data object, changed operation, training signal and deployed inputs. Frozen components and optional outputs affect the claim.
Apply it to a draft
Trace one example through the model. Use distinct labels or line styles for forward computation, supervision and gradients. Put a detail inset around the actual change, not around every inherited component.
The left-to-right diagram shows raw views, frozen DINOv3 features, trainable multi-view attention, splats and rendered targets. Freeze/train symbols and repeated camera colors identify what is learned and what supervision is available.
The diagram separates frozen VGGT features, latent compression, pointwise decoding and guidance. The resolution strip holds the latent fixed while increasing decoded points, making a design property visible rather than merely asserting flexibility.
Boundary: A planning diagram is not a reconstruction of every implementation detail. The main figure, equations and actual procedure must agree.
03Make every result interpretable under its conditions
Task scores, resource costs, diagnostic interventions and uncertainty answer different questions. A single rank can hide those differences.
Apply it to a draft
Group comparable settings, retain adverse rows, state metric direction and uncertainty, and name what is held fixed. Separate a selected diagnostic subset from whole-suite performance.
The policy table states that it is a diagnostic subset with oracle headroom. It distinguishes direct policy, simulated ranking and oracle ranking; this qualification is critical because it is not an all-task success-rate claim.
Tables retain parameter/data budgets and metric directions. The Matbench table visibly preserves metrics where the baseline wins; the learning curve uses training samples, not an unlabeled speed axis.
Boundary: Boldface, a favorable mean or a removal drop does not establish statistical significance, equivalence or an unrestricted causal explanation.
04Give each supporting claim a destination
Readers need routes to assumptions, protocol, configurations, full results and failures. Essential meaning belongs in the main argument.
Apply it to a draft
Use a short appendix map and truthful checklist references. Separate proof details, protocol, long resource catalogs and selected examples so a reader can locate the relevant evidence.
Additional tasks without consistent oracle headroom and categorized failures are retained, alongside inference configuration and efficiency. The appendix therefore tests limits of the claimed use case rather than serving only as a gallery of successes.
Activation-specific derivations, baseline definitions and theoretical guarantees have named destinations; long later result sections support the numerical comparisons. This was a writing/navigation scan, not a verification of every proof or result in the 167-page source.
